Frequently Asked Questions

In addition to the FAQs below you are welcome to telephone Chris on 0117 9076307 with any questions you may have.

How can hypnotherapy help me?

Hypnosis alters your state of consciousness to allow a more direct communication with your unconscious. Therapeutic techniques can then be applied for your future benefit. Please see Clinical Hypnotherapy and Applications for further information.

What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is a very special calm and pleasant state where the body is relaxed and the unconscious mind alert to the therapeutic process. You actually experience hypnodial states at least twice a day; when drifting from awake to asleep and when you drift from asleep to awake.

What about stage hypnosis? Will I lose control?

The stage hypnotist makes a living using hypnosis for entertainment purposes and a Clinical Hypnotherapist is specifically trained to use hypnosis as part of a set of effective tools to elicit positive change. You always have a choice to refuse anything a hypnotist suggests. Additionally, the role of the Clinical Hypnotherapist is to work in partnership with the client in order for the client to gain a greater control in their life.

Is it safe?

In the care of a fully trained Clinical Hypnotherapist the use of hypnosis as a therapeutic tool is one of the safest forms of therapy available. Those seeking any form of therapy should make sure they contact a fully qualified professional who belongs to a recognized association. If in any doubt you should contact your GP.

Am I suitable for Clinical Hypnotherapy?

A crucial factor for a client is the genuine desire to attain the desired outcome (this may be decided during a session). A wide range of powerful techniques are available, for use both in and out of hypnosis, to help a client make the changes they want to make. Help with motivation is part of the process. Thus, a client does not need to arrive with a high degree of hypnotic talent. Self Hypnosis is usually taught as well, to enable the client to repeat helpful suggestions and use techniques between sessions and for future use.
